The following is Elliott's conclusion for the science project:
My project was to feed our tropical fish live brine shrimp for a week and see how they liked it. Then I was to feed them dry flake fish food for a week and observe how they liked that.
My hypothesis was wrong. I thought the fish would like the flake food better because they were used to them since that is what they usually get fed. But they liked the live brine shrimp better.
After eating the shrimp for a week, the fish would hardly eat the flakes at all. It took them longer to eat the flakes than it did for them to eat the shrimp.
The fish swam up and down to get the flake food which they did not do with the shrimp because the shrimp were swimming around or didn't stay at the surface of the water the way the flakes did.
They also liked the brine shrimp better when they were alive than after they died because they were swimming around in the tank and didn't sink to the bottom. I think they liked the dead shrimp better than the flake food because the dead shrimp were more like fish food than the flakes were.
